Link #256 -Thursday is Big!

Greetings in the name of Jesus.

This Thursday (May 29) is an important day. First of all we are again gathering to view season 4 of The Chosen. We’ve had a great time joining together to do this on Thursdays at 7pm. The production is good, the popcorn is great and the fellowship has been even better. Please feel free to join us Thursday at 7pm.

Even bigger then The Chosen is that Thursday is a day set aside to celebrate Ascension day. This is a significant day for Christians, although it seems that many are not aware of it. On Ascension day we recognize and celebrate Jesus return to heaven and all that it represents. The event itself is recorded in Acts 1:9 that says “After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.”. The symbolizes that Jesus work in earth is complete and now he is in heaven interceding for all of us. It is because of this that we have access to God.

This is a big deal! The image is again given to us as Stephen was being stoned to death in Acts 7. As he is being executed Stephen says “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” (Acts 7:56). When we pray we don’t presume that we have done anything to give us the right to make contact with God. Neither do we throw our words out to the wind hoping they will be picked up by some divine phone system. Our confidence is based in the certainty that Jesus intercedes for us. Because of what he has done we have the privilege to come before God with confidence. This is just one of many reasons why the Ascension is so important. It changes the way we pray. Rejoice today that Jesus is today in heaven not simply waiting - but is actively interceding on behalf of all of us. I’d encourage you today to be reminded what a gift this is. Jesus intercedes for you.
